The Learning Principles are a set of beliefs that grades 5-12 believe are true about teaching and learning. These principles clarify what "learning for understanding" really means and requires. These are objective criteria that help all educators decide if a certain teaching practice or professional development is really focusing on helping the learner understand the meaning of the content for themselves.
The 5-12 teachers created and revised these principles in the Spring of 2017. We all agree these are principles we are striving toward as we plan and teach.
The idea of learning principles was adapted from the book, "Schooling by Design" by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe from 2007.
